Ming-Na Wen (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) is set to narrate Pencils Vs Pixels, a documentary celebrating 2D hand-drawn animation. Due to be shown at Annecy International Animated Film Festival, explores the 2D animation boom of the late 1980s and early 1990s and it’s current resurgence.
Speaking of the project, producer Tom Bancroft said: “Because of my 34 years in the animation industry, mostly as a Disney animator, I still meet people that ask me: ‘What ever happened to 2D animation – why did it go away? Pencil Vs Pixels finally answers that question. Though passionate stories by artisans atht amde the films that eople still treasure today, this film will give viewers the never-before-told answers of what happened to the hand-drawn artistry that is 2D animation.”
