‘Angel’ Series Finale 15th Anniversary: David Boreanaz Reveals How He Thinks That Final Fight Played Out (Video)
“I’ve always thought it ended great,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” spinoff alum tells TheWrap
This Sunday marks a very important milestone in TV history, And no, we’re not taking about the “Game of Thrones” series finale, but he 15th anniversary of the “Angel” series finale.
And in honor of it, TheWrap asked star David Boreanaz to look back on the closing moments of the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” spinoff’s final episode, “Not Fade Away,” and to tell us what he thinks of that big cliffhanger a decade and a half later.
“I’ve always thought it ended great,” the “SEAL Team” star told us. “I mean, even when it was written and we shot it, I had no problems with it. I think that’s great. I mean, I think that that’s a world that had opened up to people – the way our show, the way ‘Angel’ ended was I think right. You kind of go out continuously fighting, you know? And I think that the message of the show was always about the fight and that was a special moment.”
As all diehard “Angel” fans will remember, the final episode of the series ended with Angel (Boreanaz), Spike (James Marsters), Gunn (J. August Richards) and Illyria (Amy Acker) getting ready to fight the literal hell that has been unleashed on Los Angeles, and Angel shouting to the team “Let’s go to work,” as he slashes a sword and the screen cuts to black.
“Did they survive that? I don’t know. Did they get killed> I don’t know. (laughs),” Boreanaz told us. “I like to think that they survived it. I think that that fight continues and it’s a metaphor for everyone to continue to fight.”
Boreanaz previously hinted there was something brewing for the Joss Whedon-created series’ upcoming 20th anniversary (so from the series premiere in October 1999, not the May 2004 series finale we’re referencing here), but he tells The Wrap he doesn’t “know what’s going to happen.”
“it’s funny, whether it’s the 10th or the 15th or the 20th, everybody always wants to know what they’re going to do or if there is gonna be some kind of reunion, whatever that may be,” Boreanaz said. “I don’t forsee any major things happening. I just think that getting everyone together would be great. I don’t know how that would happen because there’s so much going on and I’m shooting. So we’ll see, but nothing hugely planned. I may have teased somethings, right? But, I don’t know what’s going to happen.”
