ComicBookMovie Interview: Natalia Cordova-Buckley on Whether She Will Return to the MCU

AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Star Natalia Cordova-Buckley Reveals Whether She’ll Return to MCU as Yo-Yo (Exclusive)

Natalia Cordova-Buckley put herself on the map as Yo-Yo in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and in an interview with us to discuss The Portrait, the actress reveals whether she plans to reprise the role…

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D ran for a total of 7 seasons on ABC and the show continues to boast a sizable and loyal fanbase.

We met many characters from the comics throughout those 136 episodes, including Natalia Cordova-Buckley as Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriquez.

A member of the Secret Warriors in the comics, the live-action speedster found romance with ack and even ended up losing both her arms. Cordova-Buckley established Yo-Yo as a firm fan favourite during those ups and downs for the hero and with the Multiverse in play, the chances of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D‘s cast malign the leap to the MCY are now higher than ever.

We recently caught up with the actress to discuss her role in Saban Film’s edge-of-your-seat new horror movie The Portrait. We’ll bring you the full interview after the holidays (you can also watch it in the player below), but while we had Cordova-Buckley on the line, we asked if she’s hoping to reprise her role as Yo-Yo in a future Marvel studios project.

“I’m completely satisfied,” she admitted. “Yo-Yo is, you know, I choke up every time I talk about Yo-Yo. She is profoundly special to me as a person and as an artist. I got the perfect role at the time perfect time with her. She built me up and, being part of such a huge franchise like Marvel… my grandfather was a huge comic book fan. In all ways, it was really magical but, to be honest with you, it was the beginning of my career in the United States.”

“It was perfect for that moment but I really want to focus on the kinds of stuff that The Portrait is. I want to do a lot of indies. I want to do stuff that does craft work. I didn’t become an actress to be famous or make money and feel like, sometimes, those big franchise movies just turn into that. They can really lock you up as an actor with just those types of characters.”

“I had five years of doing a superhero. That’s enough for me,” Cordova-Buckley admits.

“Someone else can take it over now. I’m profoundly grateful. It was perfect for me. It’s like that relationship you finish off beautifully and is everything it could have ever been.”

So, the door is likely closed on Yo-Yo, though plenty of fans have argued that the characters should be left alone given what a perfect send -off Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s series finale was for them.

There are, however, plenty of demands for Chloe Bennet to get another shot at Daisy Johnson/Quake!

In the wake of her husband’s devastating accident, a devoted wife becomes consumed by a mysterious portrait that resembles him in his happier days.

However, as her obsession intensifies, the painting starts to unleash terror upon her life, leading her to question whether it is possessed by a malevolent force or if she is losing her sanity.

Caught between the haunting unknown and her own fears, she must confront her deepest fears and unravel the unsettling truth before it’s too late.

The Portrait is now available on VOD and Digital platforms.
