For the past decade or so, she has largely focused on raising her two children, Charlotte, 13, and Rocky, 10, with her actor husband, Freddie Prinze Jr. But last September, Gellar shocked fans with a surprise cameo in Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s twisty satire, Do Revenge, paying homage to her iconic role as the Cruel Intentions villain. Sarah Michelle Gellar broke her silence Wednesday about her time starring in Joss Whedon’s “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” saying it had an “extremely toxic male set” while emphasizing the importance of surrounding herself with supportive women throughout her four-decade-long career.

Almost 20 years after leaving the supernatural world behind, Sarah Michelle Gellar is returning to the genre that made her a pop culture icon.

From 1997 to 2003, the actor starred as Buffy Summers for seven seasons in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” Now, she’s taking on another badass female role in the “Teen Wolf” spinoff series, “Wolf Pack.”

What attracted her to the project was a combination of things, including making her fans excited about her role, Gellar told TODAY over the phone while talking about her work with This Is About Humanity.

While discussing her work with one of her favorite charities, This Is About Humanity, ahead of their big Aug. 27 gala in Los Angeles, Gellar reflected on the time she took a step back from her career to process the death of Williams.

Tom Lenk is widely loved by Buffy fans for his role as Andrew, which expanded from a fun side character into something far more integral as each season progressed. But there’s so much more to his career beyond Sunnydale.
