Sci-fi fans might now actor Tahmoh Penikett for his role as Helo in Battlestar Galactica, or as Paul Ballard from Dollhouse. Then of course Supernatural fans know and love him for his brilliant roles as Exekiel and Gadreel from season nine. This Yukon, Canada born actor is used to being a household name in the sci-fi realm with his even more to his impressive filmography including the film Man of Steel, TV series Continuum. This coming Thursday, Jan 14, 2016, he will be in the second episode of the cool new ID series Real Detective. Tahmoh tookk time out to chat about his latest projects and to share the joy and importance of meditation.

Q. Supernatural fans are hoping Jeremy Carver will think of a way to bring back Gadreel. Do you have any ideas on how your character can come back to help the Winchesters fight the Darkness?

A: “At the risk of sounding cliche, everyone knows in this universe that anything can easily happen. How Gadreel will come back God would play a hand in it again, or something. Maybe they get to a point where they feel that Gadreel’s strength could really aid them in their task and they feel it’s time to try and get him back. I think it would be more of a surprise and an excellent plot twist if Gadreel just showed up. It would be great to see more interaction between him and Misha’s character – getting a couple angels teaming up to help the Winchester Boys. You never know. I know there was a huge fan response, I am forever grateful for that. It was a blast working with those guys. There’s a very special place in my heart for the fandom.”

Q. Do you plan to come to any Creation Entertainment conventions this year?

A. “I haven’t signed on for any more shows with Creation yet but I imagine it’s coming in to the New Year and I’m sure that they’ll bring me back for a couple for something specific to their schedule. It would be good to see fans again. I got spoiled within the last year. I really enjoyed the monthly engagement.”

Q. Riftworld Chronicles was pure entertainment and such a delight t watch. I read that the CBC has announced plans to develop a one-hour drama called Riftworld. Fans of the series hope to see the return of your character. What was it like making a web series?

A. “If it happens I’d obviously have to be a part of it. But, I heard that initial rumbling too from the producers, but there’s been no new information since. We’ll see what happens. If there is another Riftworld, it’s obviously going to depend on Erin (Karpluk) and me; hopefully. We’re still in the talking stages, but we sincerly want to bring the fans more. Erin and I had a blast doing it. You can watch that whole series, all eight episodes, in under an hour.”

Q. What can you share from the set of your upcoming guest spot on Real Detective? I understand your episode is this week?

A. “I was talking to one of the executive producers and the network seems very, very happy with it so far. Yeah, my episode is this Thursday, and I’m really excited to see it. It’s very challenging. This show works on a conservative budget and has to work at an extreme pace. It was my first time officially shooting in Montreal, and a lot ofg Americans don’t realize this but Quebec, the province, the French part of Quebec has a tremendous and respected film heritage. French Canadians are very well known for their films. They’re very committed and internationally respected. Real Detective is based on real stories. It will be a pretty unique and exceptional experience for the audience.”

Q. What can you share about your horrof film in the works called Dweller?

A. “I’m committed to this film and we don’t have a date set yet. Word is that we might be shooting early in this year, but things have been changed around. The script will be fun, and there’s one actor in particular, who is an exceptional actor with quite the resume. I would just be honored to work with him. I’m hoping we do that project sooner than later.

Q. Finally I want to chat about your meditation guides. I have a friend who struggles with being Bi-Polar and she wanted me to tell you that your meditation audios have helped her even more than medication has. How did you introduce the powerful practice of meditation in to your life.

A. “I can’t tell you how happy that makes me. I know, as most people know out there, a number of people who struggle with mental illness. And especially bi-polar. You telling me that relly makes me so happy and encouraged. I’m not a doctor and I would never suggest to anyone that they stop their medication, but the fact that they are doing a daily practice which strengthens the mind, the spirit, the body, and the focus is great. It aids them with their daily lives and the issues that they struggl with. That warms my heart. This is the whole reason that I wanted to start sharing this with people beacuse it’s a practice that I was taught by my mother at a young age, and when I was a teenager I wasn’t that diligent about it, and I wish I had been. It would have helped through some of those really difficult times. No regrets though because that was the path that I was walking. I have been for years, trying to incorporate it in to my life as consistently as possible. When it’s a consistent regular practice in my life the benefits are just overwhelming. I want to share that with everyone. I challenged the Supernatural fans, to follow me on social media to do a one month practice of meditation. it was so beneficial to so many people. Continue to do it and we’ll make this world a better place.”
