Edited – Daniel now Cast in Hellboy

Daniel Dae Kim has now confirmed that he will be taking the role of Major Ben Daimo, in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter he said:

“I am excited to confirm that I’ve officially joined the cast of Hellboy. We start shooting today and I’ll be playing Ben Daimio, alongside our very talented cast, headed by David Harbour, and director, Neil Marshall. Thank you all for the supportive tweets and comments, especially in light of the recent events surrounding its original casting.” He went on to say, “I applaud the producers and, in particular Ed Skrein for championing the notion that Asain characters should be played by Asain or Asian American actors. He could not have addressed the issue more elegantly and I remain indebted to him for his strength of character.”

Following Ed Skrien’s famous decision to leave Lionsagate’s Hellboy reboot, after being cast in the role of a Major Ben Daimio, a character of Asian heritage, the studio are now rumoured to be in talks with Daniel Dae Kim for the role. In a similar controversy, Daniel has recently left Hawaii Five-0 over a salary dispute where he and co-star Grace Park were pushing for equal pay with their white co-stars.
