After many rumours and false starts over the years, the inevitable Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot appears to be finally going ahead. Joss Whedon is set to executive the show which will be pitched to streaming and cable networks during the summer. Monica Owusu-Breen (Agents of SHIELD, Midnight Texas, Alias, Lost, Fringe) will serve as showrunner and executive producer, and is said to be working on a script alongside Joss. Original producers, Gail Berman and Fran and Kaz Kazui also on board.
Speaking of the reboot producers have said: “Like our world, it will be richly diverse, and like the original, some aspects of the series could be seen as metaphors for issues facing us all today.”
It is unclear at this stage how involved Joss will be, with the recent announcements of new show, The Nevers, and his role as executive producer on Pippa Smith: Grown Up Detective.
