Harry Lennix (Dollhouse) has purchased a building in Chicago’s South Side where he proposes to build a two-theatre complex and museum focusing on Black Americans in the performing arts.
Speaking of the project, Harry said, “This is both complicated and very simple. I want to find a means to archive the collective history of Black Americans in the performing arts. There is no institution that celebrates or houses that. And that is what the African American Museum of Performing Arts will do.
“You might think of it as the Black version of the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.”
The building with be called the Lillian Marcie Center in honour of Harry’s mother, Lillian and mentor, Marcie Gillie, and will be the Congo Square Theatre Company amongst others.
