There are so many reasons to enjoy back to school season. The world is opening up, posponed events have been rescheduled, and everyone is navigating their new “normal,” especially this year. I would not have gotten this far if I wasn’t game. I’ve played a witch. I’ve played an assassin. How do you say “no” to Ryan Murphy? You just know it’s gonna be good.

“It was very intended to have me show up in that fashion,” she explains. “Calculate is not the right word but it’s purposeful. You’re not going to have me show up, and immediately think there’s nothing to my being there. It’s obviously going to pull in a similar fan bas [to Buffy]. That was intended.” Part of that plan required keeping Caulfield’s casting a complete secret until she emerged as queen bee of the neighborhood in Episode 2.

I shared my experience, others have come forward to confide in me and reveal their own experiences with abuse. So it is my aim to help educate anyone reading this on how to be an ally and support a person who has survived trauma in its many incarnations.

“I am always like ‘I will believe it when I see it’ but always open and optimistic someone is going to do something,” says Hannigan, in an interview that took place just before the drama unfolded. “I’ll definitely be the first one at my set watching and it’s cool there is an audience that wants it to happen. So hopefully it does take off. “

Adapted from the popular and prestigious (it won the Newberry Medal) Kate DiCamilo (“The Tale of Despereaux”) novel, “Flora” has Hannigan as Phyllis Buckman, a beleaguered single mom whose only child, Flora (Matilda Lawler), hasn’t adjusted to her parents’ recent split.

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer star added: “Kissing a girl on camera is way better because when you kiss a guy, all your makeup rubs off and then in between you have to get these touch-ups. But [when] it’s a girl it’s, like, you’re good to go.”
