Roy Dotrice Passes Away Aged 94

Roy Dotrice, who played Wesley’s father, Roger Wyndam-Pryce sadly passed away yesterday aged 94. According to a statement issued by his family he died “peacefully in his London home surrounded by family.”

Roy lived a full and varied life starting his career at 16 serving Royal Air Force during the Second World War and becoming a prisoner of war when his plane was shot down. This experience inspired him to take up acting and he worked solidly in TV and movies from 1957 to the time of his passing, appearing on shows such as Treasure Island (1957), The Wars of the Rose (1965-1966), Jackanory (1971), Hercules (1998), and of course, Angel (2003).

His most recent work included the role of Hallyne the Pyromancer in Game of Thrones and he had also voiced the audio book collection for George R R Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, on which Game of Thrones is based, for which he received an entry in the Guinness World Record books for voicing 224 characters.

He won a BAFTA in 1969 for Best Actor for the BBC adaptation of AP Herbert’s Misleading Cases, and a Tony Award in 2000 for his performance in A Moon for the Misbegotten and was awarded an OBE in the 2008 Queens’s New Years Honours List for services to drama.

Roy leaves behind three daughters, Kay, Michele and Yvette, as well as grand and great-grandchildren.

He will be missed.
