Bio

Arin Shimerman was born in Lakewood, New Jersey in 1949 to parents Herbet and Susan Shimerman, a house painter and accountant respectively. At the age of 15 Armin moved with his family to Los Angeles and enrolled in a drama group. Here he attended Santa Monica High School where he played leading roles in several school productions, including Hamlet. He graduated in 1967 and went on to attend UCLA.

On finishing school he became an apprentice at the Old Globe Theater in San Diego and began to pursue a career in the theater. He moved to New York where he became a member of the Impossible Ragtime Theater.

On his return to Los Angeles, Armin started to gain work in TV, making guest starring appearances in series such as Hill Street Blues and Cagney & Lacey during the 80s. He also gained a small roll in The Hitcher. Armin continued to work steadily guest starring in many TV series throughout the 80s and landing a recurring role in Beauty and the Beast from 1987 – 1990. It was in 1987 also that he first appeared as Quark in Star Trek: The Next Generation, a role he would reprise in two further Star Trek series, Voyager and Deep Space Nine.

In 1997 he landed the recurring role of Principal Snyder in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which he would play through to the end of Season 3 when the character was killed off.

Since that time he has continued to work as a guest and recurring star star in many TV series as well as providing voice work for animated series and video games.

Armin also continues to work in the theater and is a part of the Antaeus Theatre Company where he teachers Shakespeare and is a Co-Director of the Crucible.

Trivia

Armin is one of only seven actors to play the same character in three different Star Trek series, one of only four actors to appear in pilots of two different Star Trek series and one of only two actors to appear in eleven different seasons of Star Trek series.
